RIBO recently introduced a course accreditation application fee. Effective October 1, 2016, all requests for continuing education accreditation are subject to an application fee per course for course providers.

Due to the newly introduced application fee and the low volume of demand, our Chapter will no longer be submitting our Lunch & Learn events to RIBO for continuing education accreditation. Attendees may apply for accreditation as individuals through RIBO directly at their own cost. Our Chapter will provide interested applicants with confirmation of attendance upon request. For individual applications please visit: www.ribo.com.

In 1871, Chicago was destroyed by the Great Chicago Fire, on October 9. Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been observed, from Sunday to Saturday, of the week in which the anniversary occurs. This year, that is October 9-15. The theme this year is “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years”.

As an organization dedicated to fire and life safety, let’s take the time to promote fire education that little bit extra during this time. Our Twitter account (@sfpe_soc) will be posting fire facts each day to get the conversation started. Join the conversation on Twitter with #FirePreventionWeek.

Cheque PresentationOn June 2nd, 2016 we hosted our 19th annual charity golf tournament once again at the Cardinal Golf Club. This year’s tournament was in support of the SickKids Burn Program.

Everyone enjoyed themselves throughout this truly memorable day during which we were lucky again with the weather: hot and sunny. 101 players participated in this tournament which benefited from the support of a lunch sponsorship and all 18 holes sponsored. Ultimately, a total of $7231.85 was raised for the SickKids Burn Program.

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the event, to all those who donated prizes, and to our golf committee volunteers for helping to make the event a success. A very special thank you as well to our lunch sponsor, Victaulic and our hole sponsors (Aviva, CASA, CNA, Intact, iv3 CUS, LRI, Marsh, Northbridge, Novus, Travelers, Troy, TRS, ULC, Vipond, XL Catlin, FM Global, Mircom, Hub International) without whom such a considerable donation would not be possible. The Harley/Hummer golf carts and Scotch bottle raffle also helped bonify our donation.

Hope to see you next year at our 20th annual Charity Golf Tournament!

    Jason Ryckman
    Golf Chair
