Melinda Amador oversees the development of Fire Code and Building Code compliance strategies for industrial projects, including the evaluation of flammable and combustible liquids, dangerous goods and dust hazards. Melinda directs the development of risk-informed design concepts and Alternative Solutions for pharmaceutical, specialty beverage and commercial applications. In addition, Melinda manages Building Code consulting projects for the evaluation of new construction and renovations to existing buildings in facilities such as universities, complex retail and sporting arenas. Melinda is also the current Past-President of the Southern Ontario Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

SYNOPSIS:

The presentation will introduce the physical properties and risks associated with combustible dusts and combustible particulate solids in industrial applications. Focusing on the science behind combustible dust deflagrations, the presentation will also introduce the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code, specifically Section 5.10., “Combustible Dust Producing Processes”. The presentation will also introduce specific NFPA Standards that provide guidance for the review of dust hazards and design approaches for specific types of dust and applications.
